Feedback
After I finished my draft master plan. I have draw a draft design for my education centre to show my ideas to the Murray. I have done some research about the size of festival stage. The stage area is facing west which is the original facing direction with Woodfordia Festival Stage. And also there have 3 levels for my building. The building layout and structure is follow the oroginal landform and landscape in the site. There have a big glass wall which is facing eastern. However, the feedback from Murray is that I need to change whole design, only to keep the stage structure. There have many waste space in the first level and the light cannot going to some spcae, such as tutorial classroom and digital classroom. There is not reason for the layout of exhibition spaces. I think I need to do some research about education functions, layout and structure.

Week 8 Draft Master Plan

This week, I changed information centre in the middle of site and make parking area bigger in the central of site. The journaey for visitors in this site is:
  • people can drive their cars in the big middle of car parking area. Group of students can take school bus to the centre parking area. Moreover, people also can take public transport to the exchange bus stop which is located near the main entry. They can take Woodford exchange bus to the information centre area.
  • People and students can take site maps or rent segway/bike in the information centre and start their tour.
  • If people want to camping in there, they can go get help from information centre and go the camping area.
  • If people want to stay for few days and living in the residential area. They can get map and pay in the information centre and drive their car to the residential area. There have a parking area for customers who live in that place only.
  • If people want to stay one day for visite, such as group of students or families. They can get maps and rent bike/segway in the information centre. They can walking to greenhouse and education centre or use bike/segway. But only school bus can parking in the education centre parking area. People can buy the fresh food in the greenhouse fresh food shop which is the middle of information centre and greenhouse education area. There also sale food in the education centre cafe.

Master Planning:

I have draw a draft master plan this week. I keep the original lanscape and main entry. And also I want to keep the Woodfordia Festival Site. Therefore, I put two residential area in private space, and put the information centre and greenhouse fresh food shop in the central of site (in the Woodfordia Festival Site place). Let Camping area in the semi-private space.
The Buidling design site is located in Amphitheatre area. Because I think Amphitheatre is a good place to put education centre and have two functions. During the normal working days, it can be education centre, but it can change to stage and dressing rooms for performers during the festival. Therefore, I put Greenhouse education area near the education centre and the middle of education centre and staff residential area. It make easy for staff to manage and convenience for visitors to visite.

Week 7 - Further Development of Architectural Opportunities

Sustainable Energies, Water and Pollution Issue:
Woodfordia is a sunny, natural and open place which is suitable for the use of solar energy, wind energy and biomass. Recycling water system should be used and the recycled water can be used for watering plants in the site. However, to protect Woodfordia's natural environment, the better way is using sustainable and natural materials to construct buildings and use eco friendly facilities in the site. They may need to limit the number of visitors in necessity (during the busy times).

Culture Issue:
How to make different facilities and services to suit people’s different cultural backgrounds? It is another issue which needs to be worked out. In the future, there may be digital services to provide explanations to international visitors. The design and service cannot follow one cultural background, and should respect every culture and religion.

Transport Issue:
I think there should be public transport from city to Woodfordia which can similar to Dream world, Sea world and Movie World public transport lines. People can take train and change to the bus to the destination. It would be a good idea for Woodfordia's transport as well. Moreover, people can use sustainable "segway" for the big site visit.

Climate Issue:
More trees and shelter can be planted and built in Woodfordia. The shelter is not only for people, but also for plants which are vulnerable in the high temperature. There can even be an indoor botanic garden to protect famous and precious plants and flowers. It also can give different experience for visitors.

Summary:
Through the project 1 analysis, sustainable energies, water, pollution, culture, transport, and climate issues which I discussed. Therefore, it give me a clear requirements for future Woodfordia education centre. Woodfordia will be a sustainable education centre and workshop which is natural and open place for indoor and outdoor education in 2030. All the design, facilities and systems are sustainable and following the eco-system in Woodfordia. Such as, greenhouse farming for local farming (marketing) and visitors' education. Local farming "food shop" allows people to pick their own food in the farming garden. Students can learning the planting knowledge in planting workshop. Wind, solar and biomasses energies will use to support the operate of buildings and facilities in Woodfordia. Students and families are the main visitors in future. Due to people will rely on technology for daily life in the future. People would like to communication with each other digitally and people may lose the survival skill without technology in future. Woodfordia provides people opportunities to communicate face to face and help each other during the camping or outdoor activities. It also is a place which combines the natural environment and sustainable technology.

1. Public transport to Woodfordia (tran, bus and school bus, it only allows few private cars to driver to the site)

2. Future Woodfordia will combine nature environment (forest nature environment) with sustainable technology.

3. Different facilities (outside activities, field trip, camping area, workshops and local farming areas (fresh food shop - picking vegetables and fruit), outdoor and indoor class ). Woodford Folk Festival will hold in Dec every year.
